Cognitive robotics lab

Currently our lab is formed by:

Bruno Lara

Bruno Lara is a Professor at the Universidad Autóonoma del Estado de Morelos (MX), and head of the Cognitive Robotics Lab at the Faculty of Sciences since 2005. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechatronics from King's College London (UK). Before moving to Mexico, he held a postdoc position in the TheoriLabor in the University of Jena (DE), working on evolutionary robotics. He did then a postdoc in the Max Planck Institute for Psychology Research in Munich (DE), focusing on research on Cognitive Robotics. During 2011 and 2012 and then again in 2019 he spent a sabbatical stay in the Adaptive Systems Lab at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (DE). He is an Alexander von Humboldt fellow. His research interests include internal models, sensorimotor representations, evolutionary robotics and learning.

Alejandra Ciria

In 2007, Alejandra Ciria got her B.Sc. in Psychology from the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLA-P). In 2013 she got her Master in Cognitive Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM). In 2019, she obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology in the area of Experimental Psychology from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Since 2012, she is a member of the Cognitive Robotics Laboratory. Currently, she is a full-time associate professor in the area of Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences at the School of Psychology at the UNAM. Her research focuses on perceptual optimization processes (sensory attenuation and sensory enhancement), computational modeling of perception under the predictive processing framework, as well as the study of prediction error dynamics as a self-regulating mechanism.

Diana Valenzo

She got her master in cognitive sciences and her B.Sc. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos. She is a Ph.D student in computational modelling and scientific computing at present. Her research topic focuses on the implementation of certain predictive mechanisms in artificial agents in order to generate a coherent behaviour in them. The central interest of this research is to contribute, from the perspective of cognitive robotics, to the increasing debate about predictive mechanisms proposed by diverse areas of cognitive sciences.

José Emmanuel Mendoza Bock

I have my degree in Philosophy from the Veracruz University (UV), and master in Cognitive Sciences from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEMor). At the moment I realize a PhD in Philosophy of the Sciences in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), in the area of Philosophy of the Cognitive Sciences. My interests focus on the areas of philosophy of cognitive sciences, philosophy of cognitive robotics and embodied cognitive sciences. My research seeks to focus on the philosophical analysis of the epistemic, theoretical and methodological assumptions that underlie the postulates of the embodied cognitive sciences in order to shed light on some problems and discussions that have arisen within them.

Dadaí Astorga

Dadai Astorga got her B.Sc. in psychology at/from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM) and got her master in Cognitive Science at the same university. She is currently studying his PhD in the Computational Modelling and Scientific Computing program at the Science Research Center at the UAEM. Since 2015, she is a member of the Cognitive Robotics Laboratory.

Jose Manuel Pardo

Manuel Pardo has a degree in philosophy from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM) and a master degree in Cognitive Sciences from the same University. Currently, he is studying his Ph.D. at the UAEM science research center in the area of computational modeling and scientific computing, conducting research work in the field of evolutionary robotics.

Eduardo Rojas

Eduardo completed his undergraduate studies in psychology and a master's degree in Cognitive Sciences at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM). He is currently studying his PhD in the Computational Modelling and Scientific Computing program  at the Center for Scientific Research of the same university.

Marco Flores

He studied a B.Sc. in Language and Hispanic Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), receiving the degree in 2018. Nowadays, he estudies a masters in Sciences in the field of Computational Modelling and Scientific Computation (MCCC) in the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM).  He collaborates with the Laboratorio de Psicolingüística, Faculty of Psychology , UNAM; and the Laboratorio del Desarrollo Cognitivo y del Lenguaje, Faculty of Psychology, UNAM. Currently he is a member of the Laboratorio de Robótica Cognitiva, Centro de Investigación en CIencias (CInC), UAEM. He is studying language multimodal integration and the emergence of the McGurk Effect.

Leonardo Noriega

Leonardo studied the bachelor in psychology from 2008 to 2012 at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos. In 2019 he received his Master in Cognitive Sciences degree at the same University. Currently, he is a teacher at bachelors and high school levels. His research topic centers around affective predictions, decision making and the stress response. He is an active member of the Cognitive Robotics Lab since 2018.

Andrea Sandoval

Andrea graduated in Mechatronic Engineering, she is an intern in the Laboratory of Cognitive Robotics at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM) and is developing a project on Evolutionary Robotics. She works in the development of autonomous robot controllers through evolutionary processes modelled with genetic algorithms.
